How to buy perfect jeans online.
Pressed for time? Want to get the best deal when buying jeans? Buying jeans online can save you time and money, as well as providing you with many more choices than you would otherwise have. Since online retailers unfortunately don’t have fitting rooms, you will have to employ other methods to find that perfect pair of jeans. Here are some tips on how to find the perfect pair of jeans online.
- Do your research. The Internet is full of reviews from consumers do a search for the brand and style of jeans you are considering and see what other have to say about them. Are the reviews generally positive? Do people with one particular body shape have good things to say about the jeans? Are they reported to fall apart immediately after washing? Take these reviews into consideration.
- Find the lowest price. Google Product Search (formerly Froogle) is a great tool for price comparison. Some companies will have price matching policies also, so if you find your ideal jeans for a lower price somewhere else, don’t be afraid to ask for that price. Also, search for coupons, discount codes, or discounted gift cards for the retailer you are considering. Sites such as DealLocker.com have coupons and discounts for jeans from many different retailers.
- Consider eBay. eBay is a low-cost way of experimenting with different styles of jeans. You can buy jeans of various brands and styles for much less than you’d spend on them new, and often they are in very good shape. Of course, you will want to wash secondhand jeans in hot water, but you can try a variety of jeans for less than you’d spend on a new pair. If you are unhappy with some of them, you can always resell them on eBay or donate them to a charity and take the tax deduction. In addition, once you have found a brand and style of jeans that you like, you may be able to find them in like-newcondition on eBay.
- Develop brand loyalty. After you have found a brand of jeans which you like possibly by going to the store and buying them the old-fashioned way stick to that brand and style. This kind of brand loyalty will usually ensure that the size and fit remains fairly constant. Personally I like Lucky Jeans and Seven for all mankind.
- Get all the information. Check the size charts, the style descriptions, and the photos from all different angles. In addition, many retailers will have a live chat feature, which you can use to ask the customer service representative any other questions you might have. They may be able to give you additional measurements, tell you more about the style, or which kind of jeans are most popular. Lands End has developed My Virtual Model to let you try the jeans on a virtual model that has been customized to look like you.
- Finally, check the return policy. You do not want to be stuck with a pair of jeans which don’t fit and no way to return them. In addition, many companies will not charge you an additional shipping fee if you are making an exchange.

The problem with second hand jeans is that even though they have a size 8 tag, doesn’t mean they will be. Jeans, and other pants, get stretched out as they’re worn. And trying to re-sell stuff on Ebay isn’t as easy as it seems.

The trick with jeans on Ebay is to buy only brand / size combos you have already tried. Usually the jeans I buy for my wife are “new”. Which sometimes means only worn once or twice by the seller, but often they are actually new. People by from department stores at the end of the season in bulk and then resell. I have gotten some great deals on Theory jeans this way.
